Nothing captures our hearts as quickly as the love of a dog. We are instantly mesmerized by every wiggle of their bottom and the glint in their eyes. One look at them and they become instant family members. We bring them home not always considering the task in front of us. You bring them home and then it hits you how big of a responsibility you have taken on. He's yours now! Now it's up to you to give them a warm home, a comfortable bed, clean water and plenty of delicious kibble. You goal is to fit this precious creature into your life.
Dog care and dog training starts at home. It s important to know what style of training you will be using before the dog gets home. Hopefully if you have children that you teach them also about their responsibilities before bringing a dog into your home. What's most important is that you begin to train your dog as soon as you get home the first day. Where is he going to sleep and eat.If you have decided that your going to keep your dog in a dog crate ( crate training)there are some supplies needed such as towels , blankets, a water jar and soft side padding if you are using a metal cage and access to food.
If it's your first dog you may need some help with dog training. Sign up for training classes at your local pet store or check the yellow pages for dog training groups in your area. It may be a good idea to read about different training methods such as positive reinforcement or clicker training.
If your saying " what's that" you need some education about dog training.
If you decide to get a dog trainer be sure that the instructor is using a training method that you believe is appropriate for your dog and your family. Be clear about the goals you have in mind for your dog.
Your dog needs a bed and there is a size for every dog.. Choose a good quality , functional dog bed that's the right size, comfortable, and warm. The bed should be placed outside of the heavy traffic areas in the house. This should be your dogs sanctuary, a place of peace and relaxation for your dog.
Dog toys are a necessity! That's right, a necessity. Dogs need mental stimulation, physical exercise, interaction with you, play time and something to do or like humans without it they can become bored, depressed and destructive. Buying expensive toys is not always necessary. You may have one of those dogs who prefers to play with the empty toilet roll , paper towel roll or empty boxes. (lucky you). If that's the case don't waste your money just provide them with more rolls and boxes.

"A customer is the most important visitor on
our premises; he is not dependent on us. We
are dependent on him. He is not an
interruption in our work. He is the purpose
of it. He is not an outsider in our
business. He is part of it. We are not doing
him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a
favor by giving us an opportunity to do so."
