Toys For Dogs
Rubber Neckers
The best dog toy is that which is not harmful to the dog but affords him hours of fun. Let’s look at some do’s and don'ts when purchasing a dog toy.
Depending on the breed, some dogs prefer a particular toy over others. In fact, while it may not be a toy at all, some dogs may become attached to an inanimate object much like a child will hang on to a security blanket.
Its important to purchase dog toys that are the right size for the right dog. Some of the best dog toys are hard rubber balls, toys that require your dog to fetch and toys that encourage interaction between you and your dog. Play is a great way to bond with your dog.
Generally, however, dogs love toys that squeak. Doesn’t matter what shape or color it is, as long as it squeaks, it becomes a favorite.
Tug-O'-Rama (squeaks)
* Do buy a dog toy that squeaks and is made of durable rubber.
* Don't, however, purchase a squeaky toy that can easily be torn. A dog can easily choke on the squeaker.
Taking your dog to the park is an important part of their exercise regimen. As such, bringing along the Frisbee or tennis ball will give your dog hours of pleasure.
* Do buy a Frisbee, tennis balls and toys such as Doggie Driver and Chuck It!.They will give your pet plenty of exercise.
* Don't buy any that are made of hard plastic. They are not strong enough.
Dogs love to chew on just about anything, especially puppies, While plastic bones are widely available, dogs prefer things they can readily chew and plastic bones may not be the best chose. Chew ropes come in various sizes and styles and can make hours of work for even the best chewers.
* Do buy dog bones made of vegetable material.
* Don't give your done a bone made of rawhide as they tend to eat it in large pieces with may cause digestive problems.
Dogs particularly love toys that have a secret compartment that you can put treats in. When your dog is home alone hide-a-treat balls and other toys with food compartments are perfect to help your dog pass the time.
Talk To Me Treat ball
* Do buy heavy duty rubber toys such as the Kong toys or Boingo Balls that have a thick rubber wrapped around a plastic ball, . Both types of toys are great for aggressive chewers.
* Don't buy cheap toys that are made of plastic or that can be easily chewed. Dogs can break them and choke on or cut their gums on the pieces.
The truth is, many people make toys out of old socks by making some large knots in them .Your dog may be happy with it but I'm not so sure that is the best method. The cotton in socks is not made to withstand dog teeth especially puppy chew monsters and large aggressive chewers. When choosing a dog toy, it is important to read the label to ensure it is perfectly safe, does not contain any lead, is durable and gives your pet plenty of fun time.
The best method would be to purchase a variety of toys and let your dogs choose the ones which he prefers. Try not to spend too much money if your dog is anything like mine. Our dog likes toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls and boxes. (Now, that doesn't cost a lot). Whether the dog toys are stuffed, squeakers, or have hidden compartments; your dog will be the best judge as to what is more to his liking.
Once you have found the right one – stock up on it. If you are a pet owner, you know from experience that once a dog is given a dog toy that squeaks, for example, it will take about five minutes before that toy loses its squeaking capability. Unless of course the squeaker is sealed in very strong material such as a the Tug-O-Rama or one made for aggressive chewers. Watch your dog carefully when playing with toys that squeak to be sure he/she doesn't get the squeaker out and choke on it. Choose toys that are durable, that will stand up to most strong chewers and that offer your pet lots of fun.
