   The Boxer is a member of the Working Group.  Due to its origin in German in the 1800 hundreds It has been known by the names ,The Deutscher Boxer and  the German Boxer. This is a powerful dog.  It has  a stocky appearance, with strong shoulders , has tight arched ribs., is athletic and muscular.  It's coat is shiny , short and comes in fawn and brindle coloring. It's tail is usually docked. The Boxer  is 21-25 inches in height and weighs 55 - 70 pounds.

The Boxer is an intelligent dog It enjoy human companionship. They love adults and children. This is a dog that may be too large for children under 3 years of age. They should never be left alone with a child as accidents can happen.The Boxer is a devoted ,happy and an affectionate companion. They can be very social and will seek any attention they can get. 

The Boxer has been described as intelligent, eager to please, a good watch dog, very social,  patient, curious, alert and playful. It can also be standoffish to strangers and other dogs. Thy have also be known to be hards to train, snore very loudly, drool, be gassy and  will try and dominate a weak , non-assertive owner. Thy must be taugh the rules as a very young puppy.

 Socialization  and obedience training at a very young age is  very important for the Boxer. Firm training is important from the start. They make great watchdogs. In order to lead it's pack the owner must be confident,  firm but gentle. Using positive reinforcemetnt  training is effective with the Boxer . Punishment is not.  This is a strong, strong-willed confident breed. 

 The Boxer requires moderate exersize  The Boxer enjoys running and it has lots and lots of energy. Two walks a day of 45 minutes to one hour is good to let it burn off some of its energy.Boxers were bred to hunt wild Boar, deer, bison and as watchdogs. In more recent times they have been used to herd catte, as guide dogs and to assist police in  search and seizure missions.

 The life expectancy is 8 - 12 years. Its health problems include arthritis, colitis, heart murmurs, hip dysplasia, tumors, cornea ulcers and cancer.  Many of these are inherited and specific to the breed. Frequent visits to the vet are important.

They were first recognized by the American Kennel Association  in 1904.
