     Beagle    6"  $29.99

Beagles are small but solid, sturdy and strong. They are bursting with energy. They have a tri-color coat of black, white and tan. The Beagle belongs to the Hound Group. There are two varieties of Beagle.  One is 13" in height and the larger is 15" at the shoulders (withers).

Beagle should be brushed at least once a week.  It helps to maintain a healthy coat.  It does shed and this may help to keep your home clean. Brushing helps you to bond with your pet.
They can tolerate apartment living but do need regular walks and exercise. To main their peace of mind they needs lots of activity. They have an excellent sense of smell. Once turned on to a smell they become trackers trying relentlessly  to locate the smell.  They are known to run away chasing the smell and not responding to it's name. Beagles must be on a leash  during walks. and in a fenced in yard.
They are great with children, active seniors, people who like to be outdoors and can enjoy a  suburban lifestyle. But I suggest that even the best of dogs should not be left alone with children. Beagle's can be stubborn and difficult to train.  Their pack leader should be strong, firm and consistent.  Rules are made to be obeyed..  They tend to have problems with other dogs and can be aggressive to strangers.
Beagles have a language all their own known as "babying"  this intelligible language  sounds like a loud, bellowing howl. This behavior is very difficult to correct so you may have to live with it.
Health problems that can effect Beagles are dwarfism, epilepsy , eye infections, cherry eye, glaucoma, cancer, heart disease, retinal atrophy , kidney failure, hypothyroidism (sluggish gland  that can result in weight and back problems) and  ear problems . Be sure to clean their ears regularly to avoid this.

The life expectancy of a Beagle is 12-15 years.

The Beagle was first recognized by The American Kennel Association in 1957.
