The Chihuahua is a popular dog belonging to the toy dog group .They are believed to originate in Mexico.This spicy little character of a dog is extremely devoted and loyal to its owner. They are the oldest canine in North America and one of the smallest. They can weigh 7 lbs or less.
Chihuahua's can be reserved with strangers and show aggression towards other dogs, but generally the Chihuahua can get along great with other pets that you have.
Not all Chihuahuas have the same bold temperament. Some are very intense and will have an attitude as if they can take on the world, others may be extremely shy and timid. Either way, all Chihuahuas are very protective of their owners and the rest of the family.
Upkeep And Maintenance
The Chihuahua is a very excitable, active dogs that needs exercise daily. Since they are so excitable they get much of their exercise from running room to room in a house or apartment. Since they love the outdoors they will greatly enjoy outdoor walks and play time.
In terms of living arrangements, the Chihuahua is an indoor dog and should not be kept outside. There is nothing wrong with having him explore the yard a couple of hours each day, but this should only be temporary. Chihuahuas absolutely hate cold temperatures and will run to seek out warmth and coziness.
Chihuahua may have short or long hair. Neither requires a lot of grooming . To keep their hair free of tangles and mats brush the long hair Chihuahua at least twice a week and the short hair once every two weeks.
Health Information
The Chihuahua may live up to 20 years. Normally they live 15-17 years if they are healthy. For any health concerns we suggest talking to your Veterinarian regarding any health concerns. Chihuahuas may develop knee and heart problems . Other health concerns may include hypoglycemia and lung problems.
