 Choosing The RIght Dog Trainer

Many people can hire someone to take over the training of their dog. Other dog owners are lucky, and able to handle their own training needs, and have happy, healthy and obedient pups. There are however, those who cannot change their dog's bad behaviour on their own, as well as people who are first-time dog owners with not a clue how to teach the basic commands of "sit", "stay" or correct Fido's bad behaviour. You may have to hire a trainer to cover the basics with your dog. Here are some tips for choosing a good trainer to help  you get a well behaved dog.
1. Ensure that the trainer you are considering does not use force or harmful correction methods while training.

2. Anyone who is training a dog needs to treat the animal firmly, but still in a fair and kind manner. Any unkind treatment should not be tolerated. Ask the trainer for references if you want to make sure of his reputation.

3. Will this trainer get to know your dog's personality and quirks before training starts? Will he become familiar with your dog's needs before starting the training process?

4. Will this trainer provide you with updates on your dog's progress and any difficulties he may notice?
5. Are you required to be present during the training sessions?

6. What are the trainer's fees, and what is provided for this amount?

7. Over what time period does the trainer expect to see results, and have you be able to reinforce them?

8. What methods of praise does the trainer use when your dog is accomplishing certain goals?

9. Does your dog seem comfortable with the trainer?

10. Is this trainer someone who will give you specific instructions to follow up with once the training process is complete?
Another very important consideration is if the trainer is certified or not. The link below will help you to access  information about the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. http://www.apdt.com.
These are just a few ideas for you. Your issues with the pet could be just a case of them trying to become the alpha male in the home, because they now consider it their territory. Gaining control over this situation must be done as quickly as possible, or you will be at wit's end and completely discouraged before long.
Successful training of any dog is for them to realize that you are the "alpha dog". Once they understand you are the “leader of the pack”, it is easier for him to follow your commands, doing what is expected and required of him. This of course can take time, but it is worth the wait, and as a result of your research into the trainer beforehand it can be done calmly and lovingly.
There is one final consideration when choosing a trainer. One possibility group training sessions or classes. You would still ask the same questions, but with the additional option of asking for individual instruction, possibly after class or when convenient for both you and the trainer.
This is a great opportunity for an enjoyable time with your dog. When trained along side other dogs, it makes for a calmer dog when another is encountered on a walk or at the dog-friendly park. This will alleviate a lot of stress when you are walking your dog and meet up with other dogs or people.
Nobody likes unpleasant experiences when out and about with their dog, and getting them familiar with other animals as well as people can help make sure that everyone stays happy and unharmed.

Experts may advise you that having a personal trainer along with attending a group session can be the best of both worlds. The personal training will be there to work one on one with your dog, and a group training will assist in areas that require more structure and control.
