What's The Right Diet For Your Dog

More and more dog owners have opted to prepare homemade meals for their dogs, while others choose high premium dog foods. Then there are some who buy whatever happens to be on sale this week.

The only problem with these commercial brands of dog food is that there are no standards as to what does or does not make it into the mix. The only things that a dog food must include are vitamins and minerals, protein, fat and carbohydrates.

The only way to ensure what quality the commercial food is would be by reading the ingredients label, but even then you need a very clear understanding of the various ingredients to determine the quality of the ingredients, and an understanding of what the quantity of each item means for your faithful friend.

Choosing the right diet for dogs is just as important as choices for the human members of the family. Depending on size, weight, allergies, etc., each dog is different. We all have different nutritional needs, and so do all breeds and sizes of dogs. All of this information is crucial to choosing a well balanced diet that will offer your dog everything he needs to be healthy.

With the recent recall of pet food from store shelves, it probably makes you wonder what to do to ensure that what you feed your pet keeps him safe and in good health. Many people have resorted to making their own dog food preparations to ensure their safely, but this task takes time and preparation. You do, after all, want to provide fresh, well prepared and balanced meals to your dog.

The first thing to consider when thinking about dog food are the things that should not be a part of your dogs diet.. These include: dairy products, chocolate, as well as foods containing large amounts of sugar.

Many experts advise that dog owners should offer meals consisting of protein such as: meat, chicken, and turkey. Meats not suitable for dogs are pork and pork products. Also consider adding vegetables, fruits, fat, fiber, and Vitamin E. These are found in premium dog foods and are a healthy alternative to commercial dog foods.

While there are people who hesitate at the price of premium dog foods, you have to put it all in perspective. The healthier the food is, the less you need to give your dog in order for him to reap the full benefits. Substandard products result in your dog eating more to obtain the same results.

All in all, whether you choose premium dog food or decide to make your own, you need to know what exactly your dog is eating. Another concern would be the chance of contaminants with commercially made foods, Some of these contaminants can cause disease, infection, and other health issues..

The health of your dog is important. Choosing the right diet is important  to ensure a happy, healthy companion. It is also important to adjust your dog's diet as they age. Dietary needs do change with time, so it is all part of the importance of really looking into what kind of meals your pooch is having. Put healthy choices alongside exercise, and Fido will be happier and healthier for years to come.

With homemade food preparation on the rise, holistic diets for dogs are out there as well.
