Positive Reinforcement Dog Training
Creating A Positive Training Environment
13 Jun 2008

The key to training your dog successfully is your attitude and positive reinforcement training.  These are two of the most important factors you will  use to train your dog. Equipment, a great or so-so training system,  the breed of dog all  mean little or nothing if your attitude is poor. You can have all the bells and whistles you like, but if you don’t have the right  training attitude none of it will help to train your dog.

Here’s something that will make you think carefully before you start your learning adventure with your new puppy. Dogs often reflect the attitude and dispositions of their owners. So, if the trainer is happy, upbeat and excited to be working with the dog, then chances are the dog will be excited about learning. You can also look at it this way; a pleasant training experience produces a better result. Positive Reinforcement Dog  Training  is one answer.

Dog training is supposed to be fun. Fun for the both of you.  Would you continue to do something if the person your talking to continues to yell, scream and  insult you? Your dogs not going to either.

Positive reinforcement dog training includes praise, a positive attitude, fun, laughter, affection and treats. These are the things that your dog will respond to, follow your commands and want to please you.

Use a firm , friendly  tone when it is  necessary to make a correction. No yelling is required. Praise should come from  a friendly and happy tone of voice. Dogs do understand tones of voice.
A pleasant , positive dog training environment may go far in determining the response you will get from your dog during training.  The tone and inflection in your voice and your body language  tell the dog whether or not that being with you is going to be rewarding. Forecast  to your pet your anxiety and any anxiety he already has sets your dog up for failure.

Plan your training session when you are in  well rested, calm state of mind as this is paramount to you and your dogs training success.  Make each dog training  session  fun, entertaining and use positive reinforcement to get the response from the dog you want.

A negative training situation , anger , anxiety and abuse  will not give you the pet of your dreams. All you are doing is reinforcing bad behavior, anxiety and possible fear biting. Positive training consists of reinforcement, and rewarding good behavior.

Never use your pets name in anger. Use your pets name only when both of you are calm. Make coming to you rewarding.  Dog training sessions should initially last no longer than 20 minutes, some trainers say 10 minutes is more than enough.  You can make that decision yourself as you know your dog best. You also make the decision whether or not to use positive reinforcement dog training.
