Clothing For Small and Large Dogs
25 Feb 2008
Dogs are treated like members of the family. As such they get to enjoy the perks of being a member of the family, including wearing clothes. The pet clothing industry has boomed, offering clothing for the discerning pooch for every occasion. If you have a large or small dog, here is some fashion advice on outfitting them.
Dogs still get cold even with their fur. Lower than normal temperatures can cause hyperthermia in pets just like in humans. Remember, all dog breeds are not the same. Some dogs have shorter hair and less coverage meaning that they are as defenseless in the cold as we are. Dogs can experience sun burn as well. Lying out in the sun for long periods of time is dangerous for dogs. Their eyes need protection from the rays of the sun, too.
When jogging on paths or along the road, we want passing cars to be able to see us and our dog. In the good old winter time, the trendiest thing to wear is sweaters. Sweaters are designed two-fold: to keep us warm and to make us look good. Don’t expect anything less for your pooch. Dog sweaters are brightly colored and comfortable. For dogs that like to accessorize, owners can choose sweaters that come with matching scarf and cap.
The best dog outfits are those that are machine washable. Choose breathable fabrics especially for long haired dogs. Shorter haired dogs can enjoy a tighter weave to hold in the heat on those winter morning walks. Sweaters can be purchased that match up with your outfit. For a day at the country club, choose a varsity sweater for your dog.
We want dog clothing that is fashionable and functional become fashion favorites. Think about the rainy seasons. The smell of wet dog fur is anything but appealing. And, if you are out and about, your pooch wants to stay high and fashionably dry, too. Dog jackets and raincoats keep his fur dry without compromising his look.
Velcro straps make these jackets easy to adjust. Whether you have a large or small dog, fitting are easier with Velcro because it won’t slip or come loose. Reflective dog jackets are a must for the active dog owner. Evening jogs or walks can leave you and your dog away from home when the sun starts to set. Reflective gear keeps him safe as you make your way home. Hooded dog jackets protect his ears when out in the elements.
What about those peepers? The eyes have it—sunglasses. Sunglasses for the pooch that spends lots of time soaking up the rays have safety straps to hold them securely to his face. Vision can be impaired by slipping shades.
There are also a host of costumes, evening wear, and athletic wear for dogs. Rule of thumb is to choose clothing that is functional while maintaining the fashion of the season, which for this season it is belts and jeweled tones. Pick out their wardrobe as carefully as you would your own.
